wet computer on 87 F150
Has any one had experience with the computer getting wet and causing problems? I pulled mine out from behind the drivers kick panel and took the cover off. The circuit board had some sort of rubbery type sealer on it and water was trapped underneath the sealer. I don't know how the water gets there. I preheated my oven to 150 deg and baked it for a couple hours and it fixed the problems. The thing is a nightmare to reinstall in its present location due to the rubber boot. Are all truck computers mounted there?? I would like to move it to a drier location but am limited by the reach of the wire harness under the hood. If any one has an idea I would like to hear it. Thanks, S.Falkner

The only reason I can think of as to how the computer got wet is water running along the wiring harness ? Check to make sure the grommet where the wires come thru the firewall doesnt have any holes other than for the wires . The way trucks are used sometimes and the climates they operate in make it easy for water to make its way up in the engine bay . Also check for any leaks around the windshield . Maybe have someone run a hose along all the exterior on the left side of the truck while you watch in the computer area for leaks. Have you always owned this truck ? Sometimes flood damaged vehicles make their way back to the streets .

The computer in my 84 Ford is mounted under the dash just above the gas pedal location. The wiring harness is facing down and plugs in from the bottom. It stays dry. Can you remount it so the plug in is on the bottom... this would prevent H2O sliding down the wires. Yet another possibility is to drill a small hole in the cover for venting the moisture out.
