windshield wiper problem/ '88 F150 XLT Lariet
Hi everyone, My wipers stopped working today on any setting (interval, slow) except high. The friendly parts guy at Advance talked me into a new motor which I didn't think was the problem. It wasn't, wish I had been smart enough to have tried it first before installing it. He told me I could install it with out taking off the cowl vent cover, but I wasn't talented enough to do so. Anyway, could anyone please tell me where to start now? The switch? Hayes manual shows an internal governor, is that an electronic box located somewhere behind the dash? Thanks for any help!

The problem would be your interval governor. They run around $50.00 if you make nice with your Grinning Ford Parts Guy.
This governor is located behind the snap-out dash panel located to the left of your steering column, which also houses the headlight and windshield wiper switches and their *****,.
Get very small straight screwdriver behind each ****, push upward against the metal switch shank, and pull backwards. This will release an internal choke spring, and the **** will slide off the switch shaft easily.
Pop the panel off, and follow the switch wiring; fastened to the far left side is a "black box" (actually, it really is a black box!). This would be your governor.
There is a male/female wiring plug into the box. If you wish to demote your XLT to Custom, simply elimate the governor (and interval fuction).

Thanks Eddie, I needed to know for sure I was chasing the correct part. It was fun getting it out of there. About as good a time as replacing that actuator in the tilt steering column. I'll see how much its going to cost tomorrow, might try the boneyard. Thanks again, Danny
