93 F150 4.9 - Temp Ga and the ECT
My Temp gauge seems to flutter occasionly and is reading lower than normal. Last year I replaced the waterpump and Thermostat and filler neck. Is there any relation to the ECT and the reading on the gauge?? Where is the ECT located under the hood on a 93 4.9l
Thanks,
WH.

There is no relationship between the ECT and the temp. sender other than they do the same thing. ECT sends its info to the ECM and is located close to the thermostat housing or on it I can't remember. Also it is a two wire sensor. The sending unit for the guage is located under intake at the rear of the head and is a single wire connection.

WH ,
The ECT is located on the heater hose pipe that is screwed to the thermostat housing . If the gauge is reading lower than normal its possible either the temp gauge sending unit or its wire is at fault or the thermostat may be sticking open more than normal . Did you replace it with a Ford thermostat ?

Yes I did after first buying an aftermarket replacement. The "cheaper" thermostat did not screw in as the Motorcraft one did. There is still a chance that it is not sitting correctly but I wanted to check all other possibilities before removing the filler neck(New Gasket etc etc). I guess my next stop will be to pick up an Digital Ohmmeter to check the circuit.
