well if you look at the plugs you see both of them have the fat end right after the threads both of equal length.so they are both gonna stop at the same point.i just replaced mine at 76,000(now i have 84 something on the odometer) there autolite triple platinums from discount autoparts.autolite is the same as ford plugs so yeah.... its best to replace them cause your firing system will be a lot smoother instead of the oil coated plug.just be glad none of them are green for which youll know you have a bad head gasket. but just put the thing in.

The plug has 2 electrodes, how do you get triple platinum?
Double platinum is what Autolite and Motorcraft makes (each
electrode has platinum).

Each plug is turned down until the shoulder contacts the head and seats. On the new plug, those additional threads will never be used. Probably less expensive to just machine them all the way up once the mill lathe is running.

Do they mill the threads or do they roll them. I always thought they were rolled. But you may be right since the threds on the plugs are so sharp.
