i just bought the truck and love it.
i put in 20 dollars of gas and drove it home from
la when i looked at the truck before buying it
the tail pipe was clean but when i got home
i used 3/4 of a tank of gas and drove 134 miles
now the tail pipe is black
there are no check engine lights on
so ware do i start.
is there a place on the net ware i can get trouble
codes?
the engine size is 5.0/302 miles 92000.
can i check for trouble codes with out
a D.R.B. i know that i could on the caravan that the wife drives.

First check the fuel pressure on the fuel rail. You can buy a gauge and do this yourself or have a shop do it for about $15. If your really drinking gas, your fuel pressure regulator may be shot. Mine did this and I think I paid $40 for the part, and another $65-$70 for the labor (including the pressure check). A chilton or Haynes manual will tell you what the pressure should be...buy a manual, its a very good $20 investment.

 

psi should be 30-45psi if it's higher replace the regulator.
