identifying new parts
I had parts put on my F150, 1990 but still my truck doesn't run right. The Ford dealer did not give me the old parts, and I forgot to ask for them, too interested in seeing if my truck would run. Now, how do you tell the new parts from the old ones, if they are the same color and look like old parts, but the dirt has been rubbed off. Why don't they make new parts a different color. Talking about the ignition module. What do you think?

Ford changes part numbers as often as most people change their socks . If a part number begins with say for instance F4 that means that its a 1994 part number , F for 90 , 4 indicates 94 . E is an 80's part number , D is 70's , C 60's , B 50's . Most techs & dealerships are honest .Dealerships dont use old parts or pick things out of a pile of used parts . People rarely complain when a doctor or health organizations over charge or take days to diagnose a problem . Sometimes you just have to bear with a tech / dealership until they find the problem . Another alternative is to find an independant tech , they charge less & often have just as much exp .

The problem with thedealership where i usually buy trucks is that they seem to want to do less diagnostics and more parts replacement..my 96 wouldn't start when it was raining..had only 12k miles on it....i was charged $300.00 for a tune-up...still didn't start when wet...it was a loose connector in the end. they did NOT change the plugs or the wires!.I asked for the old plugs, but they said the trash was already picked-up..still asking Ford and the dealer's shop for a partial or full refund (I like to bother them over this...I bring it up everytime i go there and when we bought 3 new trucks since then)..now I take the trucks and cars to a different dealer; but one who is a hard deal on negotiations.
AND, I buy only Ford filters, etc. i.e., the FRAM air filter for my 96 302 bronco DOES NOT fit right!..it leaves a gap on the intake side. good luck, Al
