Power Steering Pump

Hey You Guys,

Question: Is a Power Steering Pump normally covered under
warranty or would this part be considered a "maintenance item"
Also, this pump going bad was quite coincidental with a tire rotation at one of those "commission based repair shops" that
be-friended my wife. Two days after having the tires rotated-
having never had a problem before with the engine or the steering- the steering got tough to turn-(and has gotten progressively worse) and the engine starts missing- (cylinder 6).
It is the weirdest thing. No problems for 45,000 miles and then boom- within 40 miles the engine misses and the steering pump
goes bad.

Should I be concerned about that shop or am I just paranoid?

Bill

Could just be bad luck. The pump is a warranty item if you have an extended warranty. The coil should be too.

Thank you

Thank you- for the opinion regarding that coincidence- you are absolutely right- just ran into a little bad luck. The truck has been outstanding otherwise- engine is a little high-tech and appears like Ford would rather me not be working on it- everything seems to be very tight to get to... wow. Thanks

It's not so much that they don't want you working on it, as that they're much more concerned about ease of assembly than serviceability. I usually find that taking things apart is tough, but putting them back is easy!

At least that isn't the other way around, then a lot of us might be singing the blues.
