Brake Upgrade for '95 F150?

My '95 F150 4x4 braking is a little scary. It has rear anti-locks that pump away at a "sudden" stop. I'd like to improve the braking. Is there a relatively simple brake upgrade I could do? Say, from a F250 or other Ford?

I was thinking I could either get bigger discs on the front (hopefully from another Ford rather than an expensive aftermarket conversion) , or put discs on the back, but I don't know enough about anti-lock brakes to know if I could retain them with rear discs.

I think in 98 Ford first offered rear disc brakes on F150 's . The abs should still operate if you switch to discs in the rear since the system is activated from a trigger gear & sensor mounted in the rear diff . Four wheel discs offer more efficient braking which should reduce rear wheel abs operation . Plus discs are far easier to service than drum brakes .

Good to hear that the ABS can be retained. I can't imagine that there are many '98s in the wrecking yard, but is this a "direct" swap or do you know if it will take some fabricating?

Any info would be appreciated. Thanks.

There are aftermarket sources for rear disc brake conversions . I assume you have the 8.8 Inch rear diff ? http://www.stainlesssteelbrakes.com . Im sure there are other companies that deal in the same sort of thing for price comparisons .

8.8" rear diff??? I guess I assumed that F150 came with 9" rears. If 8.8" are standard for F150s, then I have to assume that your correct.

The manuals I have don't tell me anything. (although I did learn that I have 3.55 gears - some news since I assumed 3.08s given its sluggishness.) That would also explain why my rear end grenaded at 60K miles. However, a 8.8 rear end should open up a lot of options for rear discs since the Mustang aftermarket is so good.

Is there an easy visual check?
