metal filings when changing oil?

I just bought my used 2000 e150 w/ 5.4L w/ 55k and changed the oil and filter and noticed some metal filings in the drained oil, After 1000 miles I changed it again and noticed the filings again, now I changed my oil with 5w-30 Mobil 1 with new Motercraft filter and am going to add some magnets to my filter and oil pan to catch some of these filings,

Question is why would there be filings in the oil and what can I do about it?
Thanks,

There shouldn't be. you might was to collect some of the shavings and see if your local Ford dealer can identify where they might be coming from.

This is surely a sign of bad things to come. You might get an oil sample analyzed, they can tell allot about what's happening inside an engine by what's in the oil.
