Question What's this in my explorer

I have a 98 XLT and there is a verticle slot in front of the arm rest and before the cup holders....what is it for? Is it missing something?

My 98 EB has the same thing. I think it's a tissue dispenser.

It's a tissue box holder/dispenser. Open the console and pull up on the coin holder. You are supposed to put a shallow tissue box in there and then you pull them out through the slot. I don't know where you get the right size box of tissues, though!

Oh, there's another use for it. I have my garage door opener sitting in there, it's easy to get to and can't be grabbed through the open sunroof.

It holds a box of Kleenex Juniors. They are hard to find, at least where I live. Next time I find them, I'm going to buy a case. I'm sure you can order them over the Internet. If anyone has a good source, please let us know.

I bought a good supply at Wal-Mart some time ago. Don't know if they still carry them though.

gearloose-
if the old empty box from tissues is still in the holder, it will more often than not keep you from sliding the tray out. Many times i had to get some tools to shred the darn box and pull it out piece by piece thru the slot. I've tried many combinations of how to open the tissue box so it would come out easily but never perfected the technique. hope this helps. I haven't replaced the tissue box for a long time now.

What tools??? Never had that problem, so can't relate to what you're talking about. Getting a box in or out was always easy. Just a matter of sliding it in or out, & I've been leasing Explorer's since 96. I don't recall if the design has changed over the years, but I know I never had to use tools or shred the hell out of the box to change it.

i had to use a pocketknife and a hemostat(pincers). the box always caught on an inside edge of the assembly. lucky if you never had this grief.
