Parking Brake will not lock. Any tips?
I've got a 1988 F150 2x4,5.0 standard and I can't get the parking brake to lock. The pads on the drums look ok and the cable moves freely. I adjusted the pads to be close to the drums too. It seeems that the racheting mechanism in the pedal is worn out? Is this possible or am I missing something? Will I have to buy a whole new pedal assembly? How tight should the adjustment thing be that's connecting the cables together?

You need to replace the pedal mechanism. Once you have trouble with it, it is safer to replace then later have it release once the brake is on. Had one on a chevy tow truck that released on us, but I was able to jump in and hold the truck, Could have been much worse.

The footpedal catches slightly. It sounds like the teeth that catch it are not fully engaging or the teeth are worn out. I didn't know if they could be stuck for some reason and not engaging. The pedal will catch only after it rises up from the floor, like it can't hold the full pressure. It'll engage 3/4 of the way up.

Well thanks for all the advice, I ordered the pedal assembly and it should be here tomorrow. Luckily the Ford dealership gave me a little discount on it. $65.00 This site sure makes it easier to feel better when you have to spend some $$ on a truck. Just wish I asked here before I gave AAMCO so much dough for a tranny job. Don't ever go to AAMCO, email me if you want the facts.
