Cool Where is my fuel going ?

I have a 56 T-Bird with the 312 engine when the car sits over night the fuel filter is at most, half full & the carb.seems to be dry :I have a re-built carb from Larry's,a re -built fuel pump,a re-built brake booster, the fuel filter is in line to the carb.I have made sure the glass filter bowl has a good seal & all lines are tight. So where is air getting in to evaporate the fuel?.
Thank for any help,
Lou

Are you sure the gas isn't draining back down the fuel line to the tank?

Well I didn't think the fuel could get past the fuel pump back to the tank.To check this should I disconect the input line to the pump and plug it and let it sit over night?
If this is the case,is there a way to corect this problem?

The carb may be slowly draining the fuel bowl into the intake. Is there a puddle of gas when you look down thru the carb throat? Not sure if it will evaporate before you can see it tho.

The fuel in the filter is probably draining back down the line. I don't think those old pumps had check valves and if they do, maybe they are leaky.

Good Luck,

On my old cars, I just crank the engine until it fires. The carb usually stays primed for a week or so.

If not, I squirt a little gasoline down the carb then put the air cleaner back on. A snort of starter fluid will usually work as well.

The fuel pump SHOULD keep the fuel from draining back, but that doesn't always work.

Some guys will put an electric fuel pump down near the tank, pumping through the mechanical pump.

After checking around a little more I found that you guys were right, the fuel is trying to drain back to the tank.I didn't think it could do that if the pump had a check valve in it,I thought air was getting in some where causing the fuel to evaporate.I think I will try to put in a longer fuel line so the filter will tilt towards the carb. instead of the fuel pump as it does now, mabe that will help.Once again,Thanks guys for the help,
Lou
