Please De-code my 460 for me.

Block D1VE-6015-A2B
Heads D3VE-A2A

This is a new Longblock that is .060 over that I picked up for $500- any suggestions on getting more performance out of it. I think it might be a early 70's emission motor.
Any help much appreciated guys.

Block
D = generation (1970 - 1979)
1 = year (71)
V = vehicle line (Ford midsize car)
E = Engine

6015 = general engine block assembly

A2B = modified from original casting (ex: A, AA, AB, B, BB, A1, A1A, A1B,..... etc. )

Same info for heads.

too many to list ... different carb and cam profiles, etc....

If memory serves me i think 460 4V in 71 was still just under or close to 345hp.
torque would still be near 350 foot pound.

anyone else have torque / hp data?

wow, maybe with a Edlebrock 750 and matching intake, I should be able to make 400/400 tq/hp- Should move my 56 f-100 right along.

THAT SHOULD MAKE THE PERFECT ENGINE FOR A 56 F100.

Back in the mid 80's I installed a 360 with 390gt heads in a 56 F100 for a friend of mine. That dude would fly, even if it was a 360.

The BLOCk is '71 vintage, but what about internals?? Does it have flatops or are they dished '70's-'80's pistons?? Either way, you have the larger cc '73 to 80's heads. With flat tops it will put you in the 9.5:1 CR range. With dished about 8.2:1 given the overbore. If you had D0VE-C heads with flat tops then you would be 10.5:1+ CR. A stock '71 460 4V with D0VE heads would make the motor 365 gross hp. Your motor, with flat tops, otherwise stock I would estimate 295 net hp. With dished around 220 net hp estimating in the overbore.

o.K. Thanks,
I just noticed that I have low compression '73 heads- I will tear off the heads and see what pistions are in there.
