Turbo Deisel question? Prelube, afterlube??? Is this possible
Guys,
Are there prelube systems out there that are actually electic pumps? Seems to me that this would be the way to go with a turbo system, especially deisel, which we are all being told to idle until the turbo EGT cools to 300F, to prevent coking. Well, that wastes fuel. The preluber, would be able to continue to pump oil,(if there are any that operate this way) while the turbo spins down, and also cool the turbo. Is this a reasonable assumption? Has anyone done this? Or does the idling cool the turbo with the hot exhaust gasses(hot is relative here)
Thanks,
Lariat

Yeah, I actually had a preluber on my supercharged Buick that also ran for (I think) a minute after shut down. I realize this is not necessary on a supercharger as it is on a turbo, but I did it anyway.
I don't remember the brand, but I wouldn't recommend it anyway because the pump didn't last. The other disadvantage was that it pumped unfiltered oil. Although the oil should be pretty clean if you maintain it, if you do something like this, I would suggest you make some provision for at least a coarse filter.
