Need Some Advice

I have a ticking noise coming from the water pump area. I have taking the belt off and still get the noise. removed the timing chain cover and checked timing chain, it was in spec. When I was look I noticed that I could move the gear for the balance shaft with two fingers my shop manual does not have a step to check the balance shaft. This is on ford F150 198 with v6 4.2L
Thank you for any help

hmm, I don't think this will help, but try this site:

www.leakingfords.com

Also, I would check for leaks.

Hi james's f_1_fiddy01

Oil relief valve would that cause loss off power and bad gas mileage

i had no error light or codes

the noise is something i could live with if i got the power and mileage

If your losing power than it's not the relief valve. Everyone's 4.2 has a slight tick to it. I think that what your experiencing is something more significant.

Try that leakingfords.com site. I've read it myself quite some time ago. This could be your problem. especially if you have a 97 or 98 motor.
