where can i get info on a ford 361 engine
Hey i have a 77 F-600 with a 361 . I did a compression check and most cylinders at 105-115psi range. what is the compression supposed to be? So i need to over haul it unless anyone thinks other wise. does anyone have any good sites to get rebuiding kits? oh ya does ford make a 391?

Wow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Kanter is spendy..............
361 is same as 360 but industrialized. Cranks were sometimes forged, snout on crank is much bigger o.d to run the extra accessories and drives that were adapted to the damper hub. The heads have very small valves and ports for more low end torque. The exhaust passage to warm the intake is completely different. There are lots of differences between them. About the only things that will interchange are the bearings, fuel, water, and oil pumps and the blocks. Other small items too, but the pistons, heads, intakes, front covers, dampers, cranks and sometimes the rods were different. Many of them came with the CJ style rods. The flywheels and bellhousings are also different. Most of them came with 13" industrial type clutches. They are hell for stout, but you have to have the 1 1/2 ? input shaft on the tranny to use them.
Many of the idustrial rebuilder supply places carry all you need to rebuild one of them. Most good machine shops can order the parts for about the same money as you can.

Did you ever figure out what the compression psi was supposed to be?.. I a 361 and have the same question. What is the compression psi new and what psi is acceptable for a used engine.

YOU are very observant... Couldn't agree more.. bit of a longshot.. was thinking someone else will have the answer..did realize how totally rediculous it was to post question to member 10 year absent..

Please, when asking future questions, type new threads.
When you hijack a thread, it becomes confusing because some peeps think they're responding to the OP's (Original Poster-the thread starter) questions.
1957/80 VIN's contain 11 digits, you omitted the F.
F70 = F700 (gas).
E = 361 2V or 4V FT engine.
V = Kentucky Truck Assembly Plant.
W47935 = 1975.
Please ask further questions in the LARGE TRUCK forum, most members of this forum have pickups.
