Checked wheel bearings myself this weekend - all good. I repair industrial gearboxes so I have a pretty good idea what to look for. It is more a knock (like when fishing) and not a noise, very subtle so almost impossible to detect except that I have noticed it is very pronounced if you put your foot onto the steering column whilst driving.
OK, that last clue was a good one that should narrow it down a lot more, as it seems as the problem may be in cabin, or associated with the steering shaft & its components. So, maybe have a close look at the under dash steering colom mounting bolts, tilt wheel tightening hdw, maybe loosen & change the tilt angle of the steering wheel to see if things change, have a close look at the steering shaft universal joint, steering shaft bearing & the steering wheel mounting bolt & let us know what you find.
