Lightbulb Dual exhaust for 2003 F-250 5.4L

I want to replace my stock exhaust on my F-250 5.4L extended cab with a dual exhaust straight out the rear, preferably from Flowmaster but I can't figure out from the Flowmaster website which one will work on my truck. Has anyone added dual exhaust to their Superduty? Which set up would you recommend? Thanks in advance for the help...

Most dual exhaust from fm require moving the spare tire! or atleast wrapping the pipes so the tire doesn't catch fire like happened to somebody
here!

That I know of nobody makes a true dual setup yet, because fuel tank is in the way.

You could always go with a custom ,outside the frame rail and exit in front of rear tire.

VA F-250,
I have the flowmaster 40 series 3" in / dual 2.5" out, part number is 430402. This the original flowmaster not the new delta flow. You can find some good deals on ebay. I think I'm going to order the flowmaster 3" in/ 3" out so I can install it myself w/ a down pipe. B/c the other one is still in the box due to my location finding a muffler shop thats willing to touch my SD is tough.

An area muffler shop used...

... a Flowmaster 40-series Delta-flow 3" single in, dual 2 1/2" out muffler as the starting point to custom-bend and fit a nice pair of duals that emerge outside the trailer hitch and 1" below the rear bumper on my new '04 5.4L F350. The duals terminate in nice rolled-edge, polished stainless steel tips from Magnaflow.

The system sounds great for my tastes: always audible but not "intrusive" in terms of cab resonance at highway speeds.

Total cost was $395 with tax, labor, etc. I don't know which specific muffler number they used but I know the guy had 20+ years experience at this sort of thing and spent a good, solid 2 1/2 hours carefully bending, forming, fitting and welding the system together to clear the axle, springs, shocks, etc. If there had been a simple "off-the-shelf" solution I'm sure they would have known about it as a long-time Flowmaster, Magnaflow dealer/installer. I suspect custom-bending is going to be your answer.

Flowmaster

Hi VA-F250,
About 5 months ago I had dual exhaust put on my 03 F250 5.4. In my research I found the stock exhaust to be a single 3" in and 3" out muffler. I had a custom exhaust made using a single 3" inlet and dual 2.5" outlets (Part # 9430402) That is the Delta Flow 40 Series muffler. The Tails were custom bent around the spare tire and run out the back on both sides of the hitch. I think I may have a pic in my gallery? What you want can definately be done, but as far as I know it will have to be custom bent. At that time I couldnt find anyone that manufactured a kit with the dual tails out the back.

Thanks for all of the thoughts and advice on this. I might try to custom bend some pipes like some of you have done. I'll let you know how it goes. Thanks again.

I contacted Ellis Lloyd for info on a '98 F250LD 4x4 w/ 5.4L. They only had a dual 2 1/2" system for F150 extended cab short bed but my truck has same 139" wheelbase. I'm not sure how much mods will be required but I ordered the catback kit #15749 with a single 5"x8"x18" muffler and 3" tips. I'm sure it will work on my truck but will need hangers added on driver's ide. It may even work on your truck with similar mods. It should be delivered Mon and installed later next week. My father has a SuperDuty for me to look at but it has 7.3PSD.

I paid $460.24+$62.50 shipping and bought from Danny at http://www.getperformanceparts.com/ I wanted Borla but they did not reply to e-mail, so no sale. I was assured this system would work on 4x4 and not affect my gas tank or spare tire. If your exhaust is close from muffler back, and the muffler is close to same position, you will have split dual exhaust. I still have not found out if they exit at rear, rear side or other but will know when I get it. At least it would be a starting point, though higher than muffler shop just using Flowmaster 40 muffler and fabricating the rest. If I can help, just reply or ask here.

In my area, no one is really into putting dual exhaust on superduties. I'm the only one in this whole stinky county i think that has dual exhaust on it. So needless to say I've never heard a 5.4L with Flowmasters, but from what I hear its not that great of a sound. Another thing, I was wondering what kind of dual exhaust you're going after: true dual exhaust, or a cat-back dual? I went with 2.5" pipes from the manifolds back. No cats, just the pipe and mufflers. I also went with the Cherry Bomb Vortecs. Its one hell of a muffler. Heavy duty made. Its a loud exhaust system, and if loud is what you want, i'd suggest it. Even the exhaust place I had make the exhaust said it sounded better than flowmasters. And it only cost me $170 plus $80 for the mufflers. Can't beat that!

Most shops here can run duals from where the cat should go, split over and run split out back for ~$100 with 18"-24" dual glasspacks and tips but I wanted to keep my truck emissions legal. And the glasspacks don't sound as good as when I was a teenager. The MagnaFlow supposedly won't have as much interior noise or droning as Flowmaster but at 18" is still loud at idle outside and under acceleration. The catback kit will have better quality pipe and more flow in bends than most shops. Shops can also charge more for better tips so I ain't griping about price. Most trucks won't need exhaust changed but once or twice.

Another problem here is that shops don't like to remove cats (>$2500 fine) and don't like to modify '97 up, especially if they have several HEGO sensors (unless you go with more expensive catbacks). And with no experience with a particular model, they have to experiment/fabricate everything to get it to fit (split dual). Time/labor costs can get higher so I have to go to where friends work during slow business periods

yes the whole thing in eastern pa. lehigh valley is emissions which is to go back in affect in jan. 2004 so im going with the cat back kit. before my f250 i had a 78 gmc which always costed me extra $$ to get it to pass dont want the headache of emission but i have thought of adding another cat to get true daul but iwant to see if tims works out first but daul always sounds better i think.

You do understand my truck is '98 F250LD which is more like a F150 than the SuperDuty. Personally, I would not want a SuperDuty to sound like a Mustang. Trucks should have a deeper tone and I would not wish to hear a race car everyday on every trip. If I only played in a F150 or Mustang it would be different but I drive a lot of miles each week. If I can find a 5.4L SuperDuty, I will look at it for differences and ask the guy who will install my kit. I see no reason the kit wouldn't fit. Anyway, it will be here tomorrow afternoon. I'm only trying to offer an alternative to other choices. A person should get whatever they want. My friend who has a shop runs the Flowmaster 40 series on his '92 F250HD. It has less noise than glasspacks but is still loud and he has split duals. I don't know if he runs one or two mufflers. Borlas kit runs two mufflers on duals but they are still loud when you floor it. I read most of discussions at the exhaust forum here and e-mailed several companies before I bought my MagnaFlow. I can't talk about satisfaction until it gets installed. At least everyone here knows how much and where to get it. More than when I started.
