2001 Ranger Oil Pressure

2001 Ford XLT 4.0L 4x4. I have this problem only on a cold start. i have had the truck in the shop and had the oil pressure sender changed. The service tech told me that the sensor was on a recall. worked fine all summer. soon as it got somewhat cold outside the guage reads nothing then after a minute it will be fine. anyone else have this problem? mine is still under warranty it will be getting fixed. Another defective sensor. For some reason Ford don't know how to make reliable oil pressure sensors

why not replace the oil pressure sender with one that actually indicates oil pressure ? The stock one one is really just and on/off switch.
I read where the newer trucks don't even have to jumper the 20 ohm resistor that was installed in the back of the gage panel on previous model years.
With a proper oil pressure switch your oil pressure gage will vary with oil temp and engine speed (to a point) rather than going from zero to mid-range as soon as you start the engine.
Just a thought.

Hey Guys,
While on the subject of oil pressure sensors, my father-in-law has replaced 2 so far since he has owned his 91 Ranger 4.0L 2wd Automatic + I think it's also has EFI. Any Ideas or chalk this one up to "poor sensor construction?"

After two I think that I would move up to a real guage.

Hi Mike W;
When you bring your vehicle to get it worked on + the mechanics
are suppose to know what they're doing + the person that having the work done is in there 80's + thinks the tire is only flat on the bottom. What in the hell do you expect!

Ah, are you talking about your father-in-law or his mechanic?

Stupid Question:
What oil do you use? 5-30 10-30. I had a similar problem when I used 10-40 in the cold weather..long time ago.

Hello Mike W;
Hope I did'nt send you any sour grapes last night about this subject matter?
What I'm saying is, that my father-in law (see you have been following my postings) has no clue as to what to do about his sending unit fiascos!
He has excepted the fact that whenever / wherever this crap happens, what-will-be-will-be!
He brings his Ranger to his mechanic regularly for the usual preventative maintenance items and you'd figure there would be mention of taking out this piece-of-crap sensor + putting in a REAL OIL GAUGE!
This is one of the reasons I'm w/ FTE because most of the immediate family now owns Fords and I need the correct answers, not some answer that're not relevant to a present situation.

It is screwed into the block, just behind the head on the passenger's side. When I changed my sendor "switch" out for
an analog type of sending unit, I found it was easiest to get
to through the inner fender flap on the passenger's side wheel
well....This was on a 1999 Ranger 3.0L
