Tensioner & Idler Pulley 95 f150

Looking for advice on replacing the tensioner and idler pulley on a 95 F150 4x4 with 351.

The idler pulley should have right hand thread. Correct?
I recall an earlier post saying left hand thread but I want to know before I get in there and crank away. I've snapped a few
bolts in my time and donn't enjoy getting 'em out.
Is it a torx socket that is needed?

Any tricks on tensioner assembly or is that fairly straight forward?

I figure someone out there has done this and rather then waste my time pining over the Vikings I should get this project done.

Which part is the problem ? Its no big deal to replace the pulley if its making a noise . Remove the belt , remove the pulley . As far as I know the pullley bolt is not right hand thread . If the tensioner is defective then you will have little or no tension on the belt when installed , its basically just a big spring .

I just did my 92. Not hard at all. The bolt came off real easy.

Tensioner & Idler Pulley 95 f150

Originally thought it was only idler so I bought one to put on. Now it appears it is the bearings on the pulley on the tensioner itself. Does this come as a unit or just the pulley?

Mike, You can get the entire unit from Ford. I have a 92' F-250 with a 351 v-8. The idler assembly cost me around $52.00. I believe that you can get just the pulley from a NAPA store for less $$$$. I am not positive if my idler would be the same as yours. Good luck.

Ok, What leads you to beleive the belt tensioner or the pulley is the problem ? What is the problem you are experiencing ?
