Well you gotta pull the intake anyway...why not order a flat tappet cam with lifters and a roller cam just to be safe?
It should be a roller cam motor...I think Ford made the swap in 1991 or so.
My old '88 was 185hp stock (it isn't stock anymore ) but yours I think was rated at 205hp stock. Wow 20hp at the flywheel.
Hope that helps. What size cam are you planning to run?

A new cam (correct for application) will pull more vac at idle, make more power down low-up top-all over, with the increase in power you may actually get better MPG...your motor will be more efficient producing more power making you use the 'go-pedal' less.

how much difference does a chip make? i have a 93 f150 that i swapped the 302 for a 351 it runs pretty good now with the 302 computer, it has much more power than my 95 with the stock 5.8 the engine is a 86 block with 9.5 to 1 compression and 1970 something heads. and stock 5.8 intakes. the engine had over 300 horsepower (flywheel) when it was in my race truck but that was with a single plane aluminum intake and a 650 holley. would a chip help alot? should i swap to a 5.8 computer?

A chip will work great for your current mod levels. The more you change stuff you'd then need a remap'd one. It will change timing at low throttle levels, adjust A/F, etc.
