Question Bike in Super Crew bed?

I really want a Supercrew but I may want to haul my bike in the bed. The bike needs 6 feet to get both wheels on the bed. The only way I think I could do it in the SuperCrew bed is with the tailgate down and the back wheel on the gate, or maybe some sort of heavy duty bed extension. The bike is a BMW R1100RT, full dress, about 700 lbs wet. Anyone doing this sort of thing in such a short bed? How well does it work?:

The Ranger had a Ford bed extender available at the dealer. The F-150 may have one as well. Not sure what kind of weight ratings it may have.

I've seen this done in supercrews with the tailgate down and the bed extender, but I've only seen it with dirtbikes, and they don't look too heavy.

The Super Crew is going to have a 6.5 ft. bed available soon.

Hi Templer,

I have a '04 SCrew Lariat with the bed liner and bed extension. I just ran outside and measured the bed. With the tailgate up you get 5' 5" of interior bed length (you loose a total of an inch due to the bed liner). With the tailgate down the total interior is 7' 7". It seems that you get a few more inches due to the new bed height (making the tailgate longer). The OEM bed extension is quite sturdy and locks in the down position with two carrier pins into the back of the bed. This is a real snug fit and should keep the tailgate from moving while driving. I'm sure you wouldn't want your Bimmer doing bunny-hops down the road!

Hope this helps.

I've regularly fit a pair of sportbikes in the rear of the previous Supercrew, which actuallt has a slightly smaller bed and tail gate. So it should be able to handle on 700lbs bike. As the two sportbikes were about 480lbs each.
I'm planning to do the same with a new 04 Screw.
