1988 Ford Instrument Panel ?'s

Looked at an 88 3/4 ton today and only thing wrong in cab was the instrument guages - tach and speedometer were OK. The owner said the 88 models were bad about having the instrument cluster go bad - at least the parts showing oil pres, temp, volts and fuel. How much does it cost to fix it? Can I fix it myself and is there any areas I can look at to see where the problem is? Also the truck is a diesel - no signs of cavitation - but the radiator has mineral buildup on the cooling tubes. Is there anywhere else I should look? Your help is greatly appreciated.

If all the gauges are out it may be the Instrument Voltage Regulator is dead . Its a little square box mounted to the lower left of the instrument cluster with 2 screws . Once you have the cluster out its pretty easy to replace it .
