Unhappy ABS & Gear Selector?

OK - Can there be a connection here or is this just a really wierd coincidence?

Driving home today, as I turned down my gravel road, the ABS light started flashing on and off - not with the bumps in the road, but steadily on and off. Fine, I'll get the codes out later as it is only rear ABS.

Went out 15 minutes later to pull the truck into the garage and the thing won't come out of park! The truck starts, the steering wheel is free.

This is a 95 F150 4x4 with a 5.8 with about 165K miles. Of course, it's Saturday night before a morning of pheasant hunting! Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

I assume you had your foot on the brake right? It should come out of park, doesn't sound like anything related to the ABS.

Definately, foot on the brake. Tried different combinations of foot on, release, parking brake and release, soft and hard, turning the wheel, etc. Still doesn't come out of park now , 4 hours later. Thinking about the linkage down the steering column?

OK - Problem solved. The ABS light was flashing continuosly. This ment that the fuse was blown that controls the ABS memory, as well as the cruise control and the transmission interlock. When the fuse blew, you can't shift out of park. And since to shift, you have to put your foot on the brake, it would blow every time. Replaced the fuse, it blew again - but now the problem is narrowed to a short somewhere. First place checked was the trailer light flat connection, and sure enough, it was shorting to the frame - every time the brake was applied, the circuit was shorted, and the fuse would blow. Redid the wiring on the flat connecter, put in a new fuse and we're good to go.
