Oil color ?
I got a 88 BII 2.9 auto..The question is,why is the oil in my BII a rust color not brown, black or the water-oil milkshake, but a rust color?I'm not loseing trans fluid so there is no mixture there. The oil pressure if fine and the truck runs great.
By the way I use castrol 20w-50 and motorcraft filters.

That is strange for oil to be rust color ..have you checked to see if you have coolant leaking past your head gaskets or even check your rad to make sure coolant is green ? thats my guess. i hope this will be a good start with checking along the way .Let us know..ps when was the last time you changed your coolant. i dont realy know what may have caused it but like i said its a great place to start good luck

The coolentis green and the only leak is a small one in the rad.

I just changed from a 10w-30 oil it was doing the same thing turning a rust color.
By the way it still feels clean and smell ok( no fuel smell). The truck leaks a qt. between changes,I try to chang it every 3000 miles some time it goes over.

Possible that the oil is foaming up for some reason. Oil turns that color when it gets all whipped up. Can't think of a good reason, though. Don't know much about that 2.9 L. Good luck
You can also cut apart your filter to see if there is any rust particles inside of it. If there is, you have a BIG problem.
