dual tank fuel transfer

dual tank fuel transfer
Please help, I have a 94 f150 ex cab 5.0 with dual tanks, my problem is that when I drive using the rear tank it runs out of gas very quickly in that tank, when I switch to the front tank I notice that all the gas from the rear tank is now in the front tank. The front tank operates normally and doesn't send fuel to the rear tank, the truck runs fine otherwise, and I don't notice any loss of power/economy on either tank. is there a check valve or return diverter that may cause this?

Or, its the infamous problem with the Fuel Delivery Module(FDM) other wise know as an intank Fuel Pump. These have a shuttle valve that are notorious for failing. Under normal operation...unused gas is supposed to return to the origninating tank...If your front tank is filling up, this could mean that there is a failure of the FDM in this respect.

dual tank fuel transfer
I have the same problem and bought the dual tank selector valve from http://fordpartsonline.com for 48$
I'll have it installed this or next weekend.
I just hope it's not the check valve in the fuel pump.
Keep fingers crossed...

If it isn't the selector valve, remember that your condition (fuel going into front tank) means the check valve IN THAT TANK, ie. fuel pump check valve, is the one that is shot. The new pump with valve will cost you around $200, less if you shop around. Not a hard part to change, though. Toughest part is getting to it. You have to drop the tank, UGH!, or undo your bed bolts, tail light wire harness and fuel tank fill hoses (both) and have someone help you lift and move the bed backwards. The bed isn't heavy and you don't have to move it back much to get to the front tank/pump. Beats the devil out of dropping the tank, unless you have a lift and air tools.
