455 to 502

I have a kid in one of my classes and he says his dad has a 1974 firebird with and 455. Anyway he said you can bore a 455 out to a 502. I told no fudgein way. i asked him if he ment stroking it at all and he said no. I told him theres no way you can bore it that much and use it. Just no way. What are your guys opinions

i found out some specs for the 455. 4.21 stroke and 4.1522 bore. At .080 it would only be 473.8 ci. Hes so full of crap. I wonder if his daddy told him that crap.

As said, the only way to get the Olds or Pont. 455 up to 500+ cubes is by stroking it, which isn't all that hard, but you can't bore a motor even that big out by 50 cubes. You'd be rubbing pistons together!

I was told you could get huge cubes out of overboring the ford 460 all aluminum racing block...is it just made differently?

When I worked in the machine shop we never (my boss anyway I never made decisions like that, was just learning) took more then .40 out, he said you'd make it a bomb waiting to go off if you took much more then that out.

Anyway maybe the kids an idiot (well we proved that) and maybe his dad said that he could stroke it to over 500...

*anyone clear up the 460 aluminum thing...does it need to be stroked as well to get over 500? I was told over 600 can be done...by that crazy bronco site posted a while back.

Im sure you'd have to stroke it to get over 600
To get 500 you'd proboally have to stroke it as well.
My 390 is bored .30 over and it only added 6 cubic inches...
So I doubt you could bore a 460 out to a 500
The Aluminum block.... I dont think you could even do that with.

Wiz... I thought that you had to have a new crank for that also
From what I have read... 502 is a 454 block w/ a bigger crank

Most race blocks can be bored a long way--they have super-thick cylinder walls & frequently siamesed bores.
