How do i get this dang thing off

ok i have an 89 ford f150 300/6 c6 combo with a no run condition have spark have good fuel pressure at fuel rail. talk to my friendly ford dealer he says its either the computer or the control module on the side of the distributer. so i have a good spare computer laying around so i put that in problem not solved. next step take that control module off the distributer, but i cant figure out what kinda tool it takes to get it off. now i have an extra motor in the garage so i look at it and it takes a 7/32 nut driver i believe but i can't get the nut driver to fit on the engine in the 89 so i figure well maybe they switched screws on me or somehting i have tried every sort of driver i can get my hands on its not a hex head screw its not a torx bit screw and i can't get the 7/32 nut driver on does it realy take the 7/32 nut driver its just rusted or whats the deal. man this is driving me nuts another thing is i can't get hte distributer out i have tried rotating the shaft and the housing but i cant pull it out

Check the wiring harness, especially the plug coming out of the distributor and the one going to the ignition module. They get that green corrosion in there and it will stop you dead, and also drive you nuts. For the stuck distributor, I've had good luck with Liquid Wrench that's left sit for 1/2 hour, and then "gently" pried up on two sides at once so no damage occurs.

Go to the parts house, and get a ignition miodule tool. They're not that expensive, and if you ever have to do it again, then you've already got the tool. I believe it fits in a 1/4 inch socket, so I hope that helps. And yes, it is a special tool.

1988 F-150, SWB, 5.0 EFI (formerly 4.9 EFI), M5OD 5 speed, 3.08 gears, Summit shorty truck headers, Custom built Flowmaster exhaust system. Force 4 LP6000 lightbar, Federal signal PA-300 100 watt siren, Icom IC-V100 50 watt mobile radio.

1965 F-100 (just purchased 1/18/01), SWB, 390, C-6 auto. Dual exhaust, Not much else to do to it.

Can see both below.

Hey, Just incase you haven't got that Ignition module off yet, there is an inexpensive Ignition module tool for fords. Basically all it is, is a thin walled 7/32 socket attached to a thumb-type twister. It costs about $6. Hope you didn't rip out the distributor yet..

Yeah, it's a special tool. Autozone will loan it to you. However, if it's like my 1991 model, the special screws were so rusted that there was nothing for that special tool to grab onto. Had to drill them out and then find new screws with the same thread. Nobody stocks the originals and new ignition modules don't come with them either.

Along this same line is the screws holding the distributer cap on. Some idiot engineer at Ford decided that the spring clips that were used for decades weren't good enough. Buy a cheap cap at Autozone and the screws in that cap will twist off in the distributer after 30,000 miles or so. I put 60,000 miles on a set of wire ties holding my cap on before I replaced that distributer.
