Question Baldwin filters

Anyone have any info / opinions on Baldwin oil filters? Do they have a good anti-drain back valve? How do they compare with Mortorcraft or the Wally World brand. I just paid $5.85 for a Baldwin at a Big Rig shop in Pensacola. If I can get a better filter for less, I'm sold.

Baldwin and Wix filters are from the same company. Baldwin generally is the brand used on heavy equipment while Wix is used on the retail market. Wix and NAPA filters are the same. Baldwin and Wix filters are known for more oil flow thru the filter but sacrifice some of the filtering ability of the unit. Motorcraft will filter more and smaller particles but does not flow as much oil. Both should have good anti-drain back valves. Another cheapy that ranks with the best of them is Walmarts Super Tech filters. It does a great job at filtering and flow- somewhere between the Wix and Motorcraft. It is made by Champion and is the original filter on your truck as shipped from the factory.

Thanks for the info Flash. If Wal-mart filters are just as good at 1/3 the price, I think that I just found my new filters.

Flash, what you said about Baldwin and Wix is not true. Baldwin and Hastings are basicly the same. You are right that Baldwins are directed at heavy equipment and Hastings are more retail. Wix and Napa are the same thing. We use Wix on all of our equpment from Ford Explorers to excavators and scrapers. I think supertechs are good, yet I can't bring myself to put one on MY truck, yet I have no problem using them on other vehicles.

i believe its the same filter for the v10...if you use the motorcraft fl820s then the fleetguard fl 16002 is the filter for your vehicle i pay 13 bucks at cummins dealer the standard filter is the lf 3681 both specs are the same except the up grade with the startapore media filters out 100% at 30u where as the lf 3681 filters out 95% at 30u......they both flow the same 5gpm and both have very low in restriction...fleetguard sent me the spec. sheets via email on both the reg. filter and the up grade...when you look at the filter the holes are the biggest i have ever seen on top and inside..

$13 - $18 per filter and you change the oil & filter every 1500 - 2000 miles! That's at least 1 change per month for me. Why do you change the oil & filter so often? What type of oil do you use?

i been doing it this way since i was a kid i just can't stand having dirty oil in my vehicles....i know this oil can last for 30,000 miles...i use delvac 1 5w-40 4 qts. and 3 qts. redline 5w-40(for the high amts of moly) with 7 oz. of shaeffers e.p moly # 132 (for the amts of antimony)and 12 oz. of synergyn's oil treatment...when i did a oil analysis long ago iron was 2!!! no wear what so ever!!! i stayed with this mixture.. my interceptor which has a 4.6 in it but the amts would be diff..i also use redline in my diff 75w 140 and redline d4 in tranny and transf. case....my vehicles are so lubed up in runs like a dream!!! hardly stepping on the pedal it just wants to take off....i also change antifreeze once a year i put i bottle of redlines water wetter and 8 oz. of schaffers cool and clean to neutralize acids water wetter doesn't do that well. so i maintain these vehicles to the max!!! to other people iam nuts.

Yeah, you are nuts, but many of us here are nearly as bad. Your secret's safe with us.

I am interested in your reasons and experience with "water wetter". Chrysler (for my Jeep) specifically recommends against additives claiming to improve the cooling ability of water.

Water wetter helped cool down my overheating BMW. Isn't Chrysler the one who forces you to buy "special" ATF from them only? Maybe your Jeep came with a "special" coolant.
