03 Expedition DVD disks
Has anyone had any luck using copies if DVDs in the player? I don't want to carry the kid's originals around in the car so I want to make copies. I know DVD-RW and DVD+RW will not work... but I thought DVD-R or DVD+R would be OK. So far, no dice. Maybe the brand of blank disk is an issue? The software? (DVD X).

I made copies of a movie using all 4 formats DVD+ and -R and also DVD +RW and -RW. I also tried it using 2 different programs to do it. I tested the copies on my home DVD players (3 different models) and all of the copies worked.
I took it out to my 03 with the factory DVD player installed and not one copy worked. All I ended up with is 8 copies of the same movie for my house and none for my truck.

Same hear, DVD-R, nothing I made would work in the truck, but did work in the house on other players, but not all. DVD recording is still not mature, I am now wishing I would have wated to spend that $100 on DVD software. At $2 a disk, and making 1 out of 4 or 5 that won't work period, it's not worth it.

Yea, you need good software. I use Roxio and DVD XCopy. Both are worth the money and if you have a DVD/CD burner both will be used often. You will also want to make sure that you do not skimp on the burner either. Do your research on that kind of stuff just like you do for your trucks and you will not have problems. I rarely make a coaster.
Based on my research (after I wasted time and failed burning the test DVD's for the truck of course) the factory DVD player does not support non-factory made DVD's period.

I read the manual, and it states that the factory 2003 DVD rear seat entertainment system will only read factory pressed DVD's. I too have tried DVD+R and DVD-R, with a Pioneer Burner, slow recording speed, and A+ Ritek (DVD-R) and HP (DVD+R) discs and still it will not read. If anyone knows what DVD player is used inside the unit, it may be possible to get a firmware update so that the player coudl recognize other media like Ritek, etc. This is possible in home based, and computer based DVD players, so I'm wondering if this is possible in this Delphi System. The Delphi Rear Seat DVD Entertainment system is 3L1T-10E947-AF3BJA infrared.

I ran across this post while searching for something and thought I'd throw in my .02. I have had 100% success burning DVDs for play in our 2003 Ford Expedition (all fully compatible on every other DVD player we own, including Xbox). I use DVD Shrink 3.2 to remove the menus (not necessary to remove menus, but it makes it nice to just pop the disc in while driving and have it start playing). With DVD Shrink, I create an ISO file. I think use the latest version of DVD Decrypter to burn the ISO file onto a disc. The best media I have found for Ford is Ritek G04. I burn with a Samsung DVD burner that I bought from Newegg.com for $32. I also have a Lite-On SOHW-832S Dual Layer DVD burner that will not burn playable single layer discs in the Ford, although I have not tried it with a dual layer disc yet. I probably have 200 movies and I've yet to have one burned with this setup that will not play in the Ford.
Edit: The burner is a Samsung SH-W08A. It's basically a Toshiba drive inside. I also upgraded the firmware from Samsung's website when it was new, but that was a couple years ago.
