'53 - '56 F100 - factory automatic?

I'm a new convert to the early F100's - and think I've got a line on a pretty good one. Not certain what year it is yet - but it looks very solid and sound (passenger door still closes sweet - like a new truck!.
Anyway - it appears to have a factory automatic trans - bsed on the column mounted shift and indicatgor.
My questions for for those of you who know way more than me ..... assuming it's a 53 - 56 (I'm pretty sure about that part!)
Was the auto trans from the factory very common in those years?
What engine is most likely in front of the trans?
And compared to a similar truck in the same overall with a manual trans, is it worth more or less?

Thanks

Yes, they had a Fordomatic tranny (automatic ) back then. It is somewhat rare, but not that scarce. If you have a V8, it could be a 239 or a 272 or even a 292. It depends on the year. 53 had a 239 Flathead engine, 54 and 55 had a 239 Y block, and 56 had the 272 Y block. If it's a 6, it's a 215 or a 223. The six was in all these years listed. 53 was a 215 and 54 and up were 223's All these engines had the option of the Fordomatic 2 speed. They used the Fordomatic in cars and trucks into the early 60's.

Particularly if it is a V8 Y Block it could be anything from 239 to 312 as the swaps were a common thing and are a virtual bolt-in.
The plate inside the glovebox door will tell you what was original.

One other small point, the Fordomatic is a 3 speed, just takes getting used to.

Oops! I need to read the chart better in my parts book. Print's shrinking or I'm getting older! ( I prefer the shrinking print)
