Ford's common Y-block V8 had the distributor in the back.
The 292 and the 312(T-Bird) engines we're in the back and at an angle. The 292's were very common in trucks. Not sure on the cars model an make but I do believe the "Y" block was the predessesor to the "FE".
Ford has had the dist in more places than any engine out there, Motel T, up front, A right on top of the cyl head, 32 V8 till 49 truck right in front, till 53, in front of the right head. Lincoln flat head 337, in the back, Y block in the back, FE's, small blocks, 351, 400, 429, 460 all in front.
