Question What's the difference between 2WD auto trannies and 4WD auto trannies?

I'm in the process of swapping the drivetrain from a '93 F150 2WD with an AOD into my '84 Bronco. I noticed some ads in the classifieds of people looking for 4WD specific AOD trannies. Are the 4WD trannies geared differently or something? Am I making a mistake putting the 2WD AOD in my Bronco?

Thanks
Mike

The output and tailshaft are different. The tailshaft has bolt holes around it for the connection to the transfer case.

unless your Bronco is 2wd it wont fit. The tailshaft on a 4X4 trans is shorter. I don't mean the housing because in effect there isn't one only an adapter to the transfer case. the trannies are the same except for a deeper pan on the 4X4 and you can pull the guts out and swap the tailshafts then it's a bolt in.The filter is different between the two.

Isn't this great news. I've got a useless tranny for my application now it seems, correct? What tailsections from what years are swappable onto my '93 2WD tranny? Will the existing C6 in my '84 bolt up to the '93 302 from the donor truck?

Thanks

not sure what you intend to do with the tailshafts sections , all housings will bolt up on the C6 and AOD as they share the same bolt pattern for the tailshaft section or for the adapter to a transfer case, it's the shaft length that is different ,i.e. the 4X4 trans has a shorter output (tailshaft) . If your C6 was from a 300-I6, 302,351W it will bolt up , you will have to hook up a vacuum line for the modulator and change your shift linkage at the trans. and get the appropriate kickdown rod or cable.
