Finish my paint job

Finished my tremclad paint job on my truck. I painted it with gloss black and aluminum useing a spray gun. For paint that is $50 a gallon I think it turned out great.

No more rust!

Now you just need to wet sand and buff it to get rid of the orange peal

Orange peal is texture, just like an orange skin.

Sanding will take the shine off and make it flat(shine and texture) buffing it then brings the shine back

I see what you mean. I was thinking of putting some clear coat on it as I found tremclad clearcoat in spray cans. Could I sand it out and then use the clearcoat to get the shine back? If so what grit of sand paper would I use? I am guessing somewhere in the 1000-1500 range?

Well if you want to clear over top of what you have you first need to sand you base color with 1500 grit paper. Then you can clear over top. But I do NOT recommend trying to clear coat large automotive panels with a spray can. it dries too fast and it will look like hell.

Sand with 1000 grit, followed by 2000 grit, and then use a Ryobi buffer with Meguiar's Compound (found at Walmart).

Ya I imagine the spray cans wouldn't turn out too well but I can't seem to find tremclad clear in quarts or gallons. I don't think that regular clear coat would work well with the oil based tremclad. I'll probably try it out on the tailgate as that has the worst orange peel and I can easily repaint it.
