the beast strikes again

its been a bad week for my F250

on my way to work to drop off some paperwork, my heater core started to steam into the defrost vents. . . no big deal says i, i'll just get a new one in the morning.

WRONG

half way back home, the steam turns into a stream of hot coolant on the passenger side floor!

so anyhow, me and carquest strike a deal for the core. . .

after installing, now i cannot get much heat.
brand new core, new (2000 miles) thermostat, new (5000 miles) radiator. . .

any thoughts on where my heat went to?

yes, i did top the coolant off after dumping some on the ground.

Did you forget to hook up a control? Or is a control jammed?

Did you bleed all the air out of the system when you topped off the coolant? It sounds like it's just air locked.

if its airlocked it should over heat or burp some coolant out

I suspect either an air lock in the cooling system or a kinked heater hose. Both will cause the lack of heat.

If it's just the heater core airlocked, it won't affect engine cooling since it's not on the main circulation loop. Bleed the system, I'm pretty sure that's the problem.

Take the heater return hose off and start the engine for just a few seconds, until you see coolant coming out the return hose. Hook it back up, that should get it close enough to full not to air lock.

I've always had luck letting the truck warm up with the radiator cap off. Once the thermostat opens up, it should push all the air out when there is no pressure on the system.

Yeah, but that doesn't fill the heater core, only the block circulation.

The heater core is in the cooling system and water circulates through it. If you put water in the radiator, it will fill the heater core, and push that air out. Water will have an easier time displacing the air if the cap is off and the system is not under pressure, even though it may not be able to get it out when the system is pressurized. Let the water pump do the work, just keep it topped off.

ok, first off, i got the heat werkin great,,,matter of fact i might be able to roast corn on the dash now

bleed the system trying all manners of methods, and finally when i could not get any hot air from the vents, i tried to get cold air...air temp from the vents didnt change...so i thought, hey, might be the heater control linkage?
so off the glovebox came, and there it was, i forgot to clip the end of the cable sleeve back into it holder on top of the core enclosure. after checking to see i had full motion on the dash slider, heat was restored.

thanks for all the replies!!
