Replacing a 292 with a 429/460
I went through the pain of doing a engine swap in my truck that originally was a 292. I still had the front and rear engine mounts in the truck. I can tell you that mine was not overly difficult but it does take a welder, mini sledge, sawzall, grinder, and patiences. I had to cut out the rear engine crossmember to allow the engine to sit squarely in the frame. Shave down the rivets flat and then punch them out, cut the crossmember through the center and it will drop out of the frame. If you don't cut it, it will not come out unless you take the whole frame apart. I haven't had any problems with frame flex that I know of. The front mount perch will need to have the welds ground and then remove it to allow the engine to sit low enough. Also you will need an aftermarket tube engine crossmember. I didn't like the idea of side perches. I have about 2 inches of clearance from the frame to the crank pulley. I had to use a set of March V-groove pullies. Otherwise the stock pullies wont allow for the install. With the C-6 and engine crossmember it makes up for the missing rear engine cross member. But all in all it was a very easy install. BTW this was my first frame modification. So that should tell you something.
