Cool Catalytic Converter

After living with 1/2 ton Suburbans for years we receintly purchased a 2000 Ex with the 7.3 psd, wow, what an engine
and solid truck! My wife even enjoys driving the truck and
doesn't mind the diesel clatter. My question for those in the
know, did all of the psd Ex's benefit from not having a catalytic
converter or has mine been modified? Looking at the exhaust
system it appears to be factory and the previous owner was
the Texas DMV. Can't imagine them modifying the exhaust.
My father-in-law's 2002 3/4 ton psd pick-up had a cat on his
but did the Ex's not qualify due to their heavier weight?
Another question, can a stock 4R100 tolerate towing a 6000
lb boat in overdrive up moderate hills that don't require downshifting? I've heard the auto tranny's don't tolerate
heat well and I know towing in overdrive can cause excessive
heat. In the future I'll be installing a tranny temp gauge, boost
gauge and pyrometer. Thanks for any feedback.

I didn't think that 2000 PSDs came with cats...You may want to ask in the PSD forum.

You can tow in OD since the TC is locked in OD.
