1982 F-250 Wheel "issue"...

I'm trying to find tires for a 1982 F-250 with the stock steel 9.5 X 16.5's ...I'm really sick of getting the dead silence or laughter on the other end of the phone...It was suggested that I go to a junk yard and purchase some 16" wheels?!?!?! This old truck is already geared too low for comfortable cruising...

Well...they're just idiots is all. I have 9" x 16.5's on the '73 in my sig and can get tires all day long here in NE Texas. No, the 16.5's are not as popular as they once were, but they still have a place on out old trucks, right? "Daniels New and Used Tires" in Texarkana can get any size you want and could possibly have them in stock.

Hi,

I can't understand your problem.....even here in Europe are 16.5's available.
I think you have 8 lug rims, right? I thought F-250's in the 80' uses 16 inch rims for stock.

Head to some tire web sites. Most companys have them and you can look at the different tires they have. Most also list all the sizes they make the particular tire in. After that, just find that tire's local dealer. They may have to order it, but it should arrive within a week.

Do you have any farm supply stores nearby "Near Hell". Sorry I could not resist.

That would be an good place to find 16.5 tires.

Heck they have them at our local Super Wal-Mart in the tire center and at Sam's Wholesale Club.

yea you should be able to find 16.5 inch tires but I would suggest you do go to the junkyard and get some 16 inch tires. it would then be easier for you to find replacements. it does not affect your gearing in any way. if you don't find them cheap at a junk yard you can get them from summit racing for like 30 dollar's a piece, white slotted wagon wheels but they look good on the old ford trucks. and when aired down the 16" rims will hold a tire on the bead alot better.

Yeah, 16.5" should be available almost any where still.

my 1985 f-250 has 16" rims, you should be able to grab a set from a salvage yard for $100. if you would to run the stock tire size for an 1985, it would be 235/85R16. If you want to get a little better cruise rpm, goto 285/75R16. those are skinny 33s, but make sure you change your speedo.

or if you want, you can probably flip though a new Four Wheeler mag, and mail order some 16.5s from there.
