Ford's towing guide says GCVW 6450 to 7800lbs, max tow 1600 to 3300lbs, all depending on the rear end ratio. The light duty Mazda 5sp manual transmission is the reason for low towing capacities.

Yes, F150 ratings are higher for automatic transmissions.

bigmike09 --- Your 94 F150 supercab with 4.9 and auto trans is rated in the Ford towing guide depending on the rear end ratio:
GCVW 3.08=9000lbs, 3.31=9500lbs, 3.55=10,000lbs
Max tow 3.08=4300lbs, 3.31=4800lbs, 3.55=5300lbs

I just love reading and seeing what Ford says the "max towing capacity" is for my truck, and see how much over that I have been... I just think its funny, since my truck has a max. GCVW of 10,000-10,500 (geussing 10,500 since I have 4.10's) and right now there is about 14,590 lbs. hooked to the truck (4820 lbs.--20' equipment trailer, 8970 lbs.--S250 Bobcat with tracks on, and an 800 lb. industrial grapple) and then add the weight of the truck about 4400 lbs. So that is a grand total of about 18990 lbs. Opps.. looks like I didn't flow the rules again. I hate it when that happens.

PHS79, Holy crap. You are by (if I read it right) buy 10,000 pounds?

My truck below is rated at 5,000lbs. I've towed my trailer full of water at 6,000 and it didn't have a problem at all. What frys me is that if I had an auto, my rating would be 2k more. Either way, I still want a manual tranny for towing. I don't think it's the tranny that is the weakest link, it's the crap clutch...

Ford hauling

When it comes to a work truck you can't beat a ford. I have driven ford all my life and they have always outpeformed the rest. I had an old 1972 1/2 ton with a i6 300 and put 4800 on it once the bumper was almost on the ground but it went down the road, slowly of course because there was very little steering since the front wheels were bearly touching the ground. Theese days I try not to abuse them that bad but I know if I needed to my ford would get it done.

That much weight will make any small block v8 feel sluggish. Is this your first time towing that much? After reading on here of people pulling a million pounds with their half tons, you get high expectations. What those people forget to tell you is that they get 3 mpg and cant get passed 35 mph.

You will notice 6k+ pounds, don't expect to feel peppy.

Towing my 3k pop-up down to Norfolk and back was a nice experience, but I was slow out the gates till I hit the powerband, which for me was around 3k rpm. Once I was up to cruising, it was 4th gear and ok. 5th gear was a rare choice but I was rolling at 2k in 4th most of the time. Stopping was ok with the brake gain at moderate.

I had a 1996 150 4.9 5 speed about 10 years ago. I towed a 2k lbs pop up camper with it. I think the max towing was near that weight ha! I did have the 3.08 ratio so yea it wasn't giving much power output but it pulled it. Couldnt imagine anything else behind it!!

towed my 26' Coachman travel trailer with my 92 F150 XL 300" and mazda 5 speed about 70 miles.. it did just fine, and got better fuel economy than my step dad's 94 F250 351W/C6 pulling the same load, it also had better ummph going up some steep hills..

Just the other day, had a Peterbilt conventional hauling paper (48K) thro a drive-shaft. Pulled it out of traffic, then pulled it to the shop. (Have video...) After that, and since then, my 3rd gear goes in like butter...before, it would grind...only third...

So 7800lbs is the towing max or 3300lbs? For a 95 f150 4x4 4.9l 5 speed.
