What top radiator hose to use?

My 460 is just about ready to start!!! I can't seem to find a top radiator hose that is the right size. Radiator is 2" diameter, and thermostat has 1-1/2" diameter. Any suggestions? Thank you.

What about changing the thermostat housing to match? Also what year engine are you talking about?

Have you tried NAPA? That's where I got my hoses and my upper is sized the way you're looking for.

Intrestingly enough, NAPA lists the 460 as an option in an F-150 in their computers. I'm guessing because of the popularity of this swap. I just had them look up a hose for a 77' F-150 w/460 and I got the hose I'll bet your looking for.

In '75-'79 Ford offered the 460 in the F-150 2wd's.

That's a new one on me. Was it some sort of special edition sort of like the 454SS?

No, they were usually part of the trailering special package. The truck came with things like progressive helper springs in the rear, the high torque 460, trailer wiring, and sway bars. At 202 hp, they really were not much of a race type truck back then. When you compare it to newer trucks, with the added weight of the bigger motor, they were still under powered with the 460. There are actually quite a few of them out there. I just picked one up 2 weeks ago for parts.

The 460 was also available in 1974 F100's. Looking at the engine parts list it appears that the 460's used in these F100's were actually car spec engines. I assume the gas crunch left Ford with too many 460's built for use in Lincolns, T-Birds, and so on.

Speaking of thread hi-jacking, I forgot to answer the original question. If you are using a 45 degree housing then an upper hose from a 400 would work too. For the lower hose, the best fit I've found, when using the 400 radiator, is a 460 hose cut down to length. Good luck.
