i have a full-tilt fontend on my 53 f-100, with a electric screw
motor. does anyone have any ideas on how to latch the frontend
down and what kind of latches to use. no hood pins please.
thanks
You might be able to use the hood latch from a mid-late eighties Buick (I think it was the Skylark). The hood opened to the front in that car, much like your tilt front end. You may have to fabricate a little, but the end result should work well and you wouldn't be able to see it from the outside. That's why you don't want hood pins, right? It should also be easy to locate...seems to be alot of them in the junkyards!
280zx's had a flip forward hood too. The thing on the hood is a simple U shaped thing that catches to a latch like on your door, but it bolts directly to the firewall.
Good thinking! I know the latches from an E-type Jag will work, too, but I don't think anyone wants to pay that much! Of course, you wouldn't want to have to pull a latch on both sides of your cab, either! They're REALLY a pain! I guess the idea is to find the latch mechanism from just about anything with a front-tilt hood and use it.
The Boick Park Avenue from the mid 80s (front driver) has a tilt forward hood, might check the LeSabres too. That body was around for several years so there should be a few in in the boneyards.
I have a latch from an older (probably 1980 or so) Honda accord. It works great. I took the release cable and all and installed it under the dash. Works like a charm. Take a look in my gallery, there are a couple of pictures which show the latch.
