dumb ford question
i know this isnt the 04 f-150 fourm but who thinks ford has realy messed up on the f-150s? and for that matter all the other cars and trucks? when the order day came for the f-150 i saw all kinds of people standing in line to order one. now the dealership has to put the new f-150 in the used car lot because people dont like them. so what are your thoughts on new ford trucks and cars

I was really excited about the new 150 when I was reading about it and looking at pictures. When I saw it on the lot, I was a little disappointed. I still like the truck, especially the fact that it's styled like the Superduty, but to me it looks a little small and car-like. Just give it time, it may grow us!

Put them in the used car lot? Are you saying people are buying them and turning right around and taking them back?
I've only seen one so far and I didn't even take the time to sit in it. I gave it a quick once over and decided it has lots of fancy bells and whistles plus one feature that I'm not so sure I ever will be crazy about. That is the electronic switch for four wheel drive. Maybe its just because I'm from the old school and prefer the lever on the floor.
The new 150's are fancy alright, but I'd like to hear something more specific as to why it is supposedly so disliked.

They're too pretty for a truck in my opinion, I don't think trucks should be luxurious. I have to agree with Carlene, I would rather drive an older truck, but my 94 is just fine. Theres too many computers, too much extra stuff that you don't need. I'd take one if someone gave it to me, but other than that I don't think I'll be getting one very soon.

Call me old fashioned, but I still like "boxy" look of the 1996 and older trucks. To me those are the real trucks.

I think Ford trucks started downhill in 1970 with the first plastic grille, but the 70 71 and 72s are still great. Boxy, yes but a pickup was still built to work. I have to agree that the 96 F-150 was the last decent looking one and that was a design that spent almost 2 decades getting refined. I happen to be a bit biased tho since I own one and a 97 powerstroke for a company truck. But by next summer I will have a/c and power steering and brakes on my 68 F-250 and the newer trucks are both gone. The 96 F-150 is nice for driving and very light hauling but it really can't pull anything and has to shift down on even the slightest grade which is really annoying. I have a 72 F-250 with a 300-6 and a 6200#gvw. Now compare the 96, it has a 6150#gvw and a 302. Although they are very close numberwise the 72 is a workhorse and will out haul or out tow the 96 any day of the week. And If I was in a position to buy a new truck it probably wouldn't be a Ford. The 150s look like cars or worse yet copies of Japanese pickups. And the "Super Duty" Well those things are butt ugly and just a bloated pig as far as I can tell, and yes I have driven them. I have been driving Ford pickups since 1974 and the V-10 SD was the most unimpressive pickup I can remember in a long time. Our company has always had mostly Fords and we bought a new V-10 SD and got rid of it after 3 1/2 months and 12,000 miles. I can't even defend Ford against the Chevy guys anymore after a truck like that one. And since the chevys are butt ugly too, I doubt if I would drive one of those but at least if I did I could buy one with some guts. Gas only for us, no more diesels, but a 6.0 chev will spank a V-10 especially with a heavy trailer and get considerably better mileage doing it.

The newer F150 is much less rounded than the 1997-2003, with more angles.
I seriously doubt the newer F-150s are ending up as used trucks. The three dealers I've stopped by said they're moving pretty well (I'm shopping for one now).

I've towed with an excursion v10 and with a chevy tahoe 5.3. While the tahoe was towing a 4 place aluminum snowmobile trailer with 4 sleds and guys it got around 10 mpg. The excursion v10 towing a steel car trailer and a 1960's ford truck on it got around 11 mpg. Granted there is a big diff. between the 5.3 and the 6.0 vortec, but look at the weight difference each vehicle was hauling.

Tomorrow morning I go pick up my new 2004 STX. I really like the new style changes and the 4.6 is a great engine. Would have prefered a 5.4 but it's not available in the STX.
The deaper bed, the new frame and suspension really looks like it could handle just about anything.
For the price range it's a great looking truck with the color matched bumpers and front fog lights.
My last new truck was a short wheel base 1985 XLT Lariat with the 5.8 liter 4V H.O. engine.
