ball joints

Here is as far as I have gone:
1. jack up the front end
2. place jacks on the frame
3. Remove the tires
4. Go to the internet looking for the rest of the steps because my book is
not great
As of 6PM central time----
4.5. Reading the internet answers and looking at my control arm and lower
lower ball joint.
5.0 Raised my jack with boards under the lower arm to take the hanging
pressure off
6.0 Looking at the 2 ball joints now and have these questions--
I see the lower ball joint has a removable pin/clip insert. I know this is basic guys, but your help is appreciated so I don't spend hours figuring this out.
1. Does the clip/insert spread apart and come off first
2. Then the cotter pin
3. Then the nut (but leave on while spreading the joint) I think this is where
the cussing comes in if my spreader doesn't work. I do not have the air
tools YET
Upper:
1. Loosen the control are bolts/nuts first and take them out
2. Cotter pin removal
3. Nut loosened to the last threads leaving on for joint coming out
Reinstall following the reverse? Someone said something about pressing the ball joints back in? Will the tightening of the nuts do this?? Do I need to rent a pressing tool?
Okay, any additions or subtractions will now be helpful. The sun is going down and I have to prepare for tomorrow afternoon after I purchase the Moog Control Arms and Lower Ball Joints. Anything else to replace while I got it apart--small control arms? Pitman arm, etc, etc. I might get cocky if cussing is to a minimum??
