'04 f-150 vs '04 tundra double cab
Just looking for thoughts pro and con since I want to buy the best vehicle for the money.
My needs are for six pack seating first, payload & towing second.
I've read that the toyota will have a larger cab than the supercrew.
ford will have more hp and torque although a supercharger on the toy should bring the hp close.
I believe reliability and build quality still goes to toyota.
anyone?

The Tundra has more space inside? They must have really changed for the '04 model year then, because I'm 6'4" and the last time I rode in the back of a Tundra I could barely walk when I got out. As far as reliability goes...I don't know if I'd give Toyo the checkmark there either. They really don't seem to be built as well as people think. For example..the one I rode in was only two years old and already had a crack running the entire width of the windshield and rear diff. problems (which Toyota is known for).
I'd say the two might be close competitors, but Ford would still be my first choice. Apparently 900,000 people each year would agree

Just an idea, as far as the Titan goes.
As for Toyota reliability, I have a '03 Rav and love it, no problems and 16000 miles in 5 months. Hasn't been to the dealer except for 2 oil changes. So, I think the Tundra would be a decent truck.
Not sure about the new F150's. Haven't seen one nor driven one.

I'm going to put a big checkmark on the f-150 s-crew, with its 5.4l non- blower motor and 9.75 rear end, there's no comparison to the tundra with its blown motor and tiny rear end.
I only wish the the 150 S-crew had a bit longer box.
If you want lot's of grunt for towing, the f150 is the truck.
If you want to race, then maybe the tundra might be the way to go.

Ford all the way
Before you even think of buying a truck you should consider all of your options. In which case Ford has the most. The cab configurations are abundant. Warrenty is suberb. Truck has great power and torque. And the best selling truck for 26 years for a reason. Its reliable. Toyota and Nissan are coming on with their own trucks but you have to take a look at how long they have been making them. For Toyota and Nissan its not nearly as long as Ford. They may have a few good cars but I don't think thier trucks are something that is going to get good for a little while. They pretty much slapped to of their 4 bangers together and gave it DOHC's so you decide but I would as well as many others to buy or lease the Ford, you won't regret it!

I'm in the same dilema and I'm waiting until the Titan comes out to do a full comparision. I would rather have the Titan than a blown Toyota though.
Actually, Nissan has made V8s for awhile, just not for the USA market. An exception to this is the Infinity SUV. I personnaly don't think how long a company has been making a product proves anything. There are too many examples to the contrary.
Facts:
Nissan has more power
Nissan has more torque overall and at just as low RPMs
Nissan is supposed to have the best tranny (5-speed auto also)
Nissan has more room
Nissan bumper and tailgate are ugly
Also heard the Nissan is supposed to do 0-60 in 7.0 sec for that care. Car & Driver tested the Pathfinder Armada SUV this month and it does it in 7.0 with the same engine and more weight.
I too would give Toyota and Nissan the nod in quality. Sorry guys, that's my opinion and based on my experiences.
This being said... the Titan vs F150 is still undecided for me.

The Toyota's interior is the smallest of the full size trucks. The seating width just isn't there. It barely qualifies as full size.
Don't forget that you can throw a supercharger on the Ford as well....

webmaster,
Firstly I drive a Ford right now so don't think I'm making a Toyota commercial here but:
I believe the tundra dimensions you are complaining about change for '04.
I read the comparison story and it took me a while to realize they were comparing and 03' tundra to an '04 F-150. Granted the engine will be the same so for towing the ford's the way to go but cab room should be comparable '04 to '04.
As far as toyota quality I've owned two of their pickups and had no problems whatsoever in seven years each. Both times before I purchased I looked at ford and had problems with both initial build quality and projected long-term maintenance costs.
If there is lesser quality with toyota today I fear it's because they're all not built in Japan anymore.

After my 94 Ranger, w/ 200,000 & still looking brand new, was stolen in 01 I checked into both Ford and Toyota. I found comparable vehicles in terms of options and was leaning towards the Toyota but the difference in price was between $5,000-$7,000 depending on which dealer I dealt with. Granted almost 1/3 of that price was in interest. Also the Tundra felt a lot more like my old Ranger in terms of interior room. The Ford was almost too much room in comparison(I've adjusted somehow). The Toyota had some nice features but was awlful expensive. Another reason for buying the Ford would be aftermarket availability. Also the availability of potential donor trucks gives the nod to Ford.
As far as reputation of reliability goes, maybe the Toy will provide more years of trouble free service and maybe it won't. There are quite a few variables involved beyond initial build quality. The thousands I saved over the Toy will replace most of a motor and a transmission. Granted if I have to spend the money in repairs the end cost comes out the same. However if I don't have to spend the money on repairs I can buy some pretty nice mods plus I can still afford dinner & flowers to get me out of hot water for spending money on mods.
So the moral of the story is: Buy the Ford, modify it to your liking and still get to sleep in the bedroom.
