You can change the sending unit itself. You have to drop the tank to replace it. I looked it up in my Hanyes manual, I have to do the same thing.

how do you check the sending unit to make sure it works and can you drive a dual tank truck with only the rear tank hooked up? I need to get the midship tank cleaned but don't have the cash right now.
