I'm thinking either a 4" or 6" lift. Probably be running 35's, maybe 36, or 37's??? . As of now, I am running 32x11.50's. So I'd probably need 4.10's, possibly even 4.56's??

On ebay right now there is a transfer case from a 94 bronco with the electric shift 4x4, and he has one from a 95 F-150 that is manual shift(says has 55,000 miles on it). I think starting bid is $80?? Wonder if it is any good?

Ok, and if I was to call some junk yards/u-pull it's around here, what exaclty would I say I was looking for?? Thanx for the help Mustang and others!

For a transfer case, you'll want a manually shifted Borg Warner 13-56. You don't want the electric crap. And you need the shifter linkages and shifter too. You'll need a 6" lift to clear 35's. If you want to run tires above that, most likely u'll be pushin the limits on having it still be street-legal. Mine is no where near street legal but, they dont give me a hard time about it because it's not THAT big.

Ok, since I can't seem to find a private message thing on here (first time I've looked for it since the new layout) I'm just going to ask here.....

Mustang, I was wondering if you could give me a list of everything I will need to do the conversion. I know you probably have done this a million times b4, but I also know you like helping fellow FORD lovers out!

Also, I've decided on a 4" lift, with 33" tires. Would like to go bigger, but it's really not neccesary. Thanx again for your help!

Um, you'll probably need minor things that I just can't list here but, major parts you need:

TTB off an 88+ (if you can, better brakes on it vs the older ones) from hub to hub with radius arms (unless u get the lift kit with new longer radiusa arms).

The transfer case with shifter linkages and shifter

tailshaft off of a 4wd that has the same tranny you have.

rear driveshaft from the same wheelbase 4wd vehicle

front driveshaft

Check a parts store to see if the tie rods are the same on a 2wd and 4wd (cross the part #'s).

Thats about it unless I'm missing something.

Ok, I was thinking about this and I'm wondering if the tranny I have is going to give me trouble with this conversion?

I have the 4R70W (I believe thats how it's "spelled"). And from what I've learned on here its basically an AOD tranny that has been 'beefed up' so to speak.

Is this going to give me problems? Do I need to find a T-case from a truck that also has the same tranny?

I believe for the transmission all you have to do is change the output shaft and the tailshaft. The T/C bolts directly onto the back of the transmission and your 2wd tranny does not have the correct tailshaft to bolt it to. Call up some tranny shops and see what exactly the procedure is, it might be easier to swap in a 4wd tranny instead. You do not have to find a T/C from a truck with the same tranny as far as I know. They are the same pattern, kind of like the bell housing pattern on the tranny will fit the 6 and 8 cyl engines.

if you do a lift go at least 3 or 4 inches and do a suspension lift. Much more durable then stock and less fatigue on the chasis cost more but well worth it.

Ok, well I found a prospective donor truck. It is an 88 F-150. The only thing about it I'm not sure on, is that my truck is a short bed, and this truck is longbed. Will I be able to use everything except the rear driveshaft??? Oh, and its a 5spd, mine is auto, is that going to be a problem?

Thanx for the help.

Ya you can use it but you wont have the tranny parts you need. The suspension and T/C will work. If the gear ratio is not the same, don't worry too much. You will probably need to change the ratio to a 3.73 or 4.10 depending on the tire size.
