Question tranny problems

i have a 1990 f-150 4x4 with a 302, auto. trans. every now and then when im runnin about 45 mph the tranny will go to shift and miss the gear it acts like its in neutral but when i let off and gas it up again itll shift fine whats the prob? i also need to know what size my singe fuel tank is

tranny problems

Don't let that transmission slip, it will kill it quickly. Hi, can't tell you exactly what the problem is by what you posted. If you know of a transmission shop that you can trust, that would be your best bet.
I do my own work and what I would do if it was mine is to change the trans fluid and filter and flush the rest of the system. I also open my old filter to see if there is metal in it. There are manuals available from ATSG that give comprehensive testing and repair information. You can buy the manual at a transmission parts house.

What transmission do you have?
What does the fluid look and smell like?
Is there metal in your trans pan or filter?
