So if the V-10 is based in the modular V-8, it's save to assume that it's both longer and wider than the 460. Thanks, guys.

I have been searching for the "box" dimensions on this engine for days now. To be honest, its the reason that I joined FTE. I could not find the dimensions in google searches and ran several searches on this website. I was about to give up and just post the question but there were several "Read First" sections for new members. Long story short it set off a domino affect that lead me to this posting and ultimately the answer that I was looking for. I guess there's a reason why the newbie process is what it is. It took me longer to find the answer to my original question than what I would have liked, but part of that is because I got side tracked with several articles related to issues I've had with my rig since it got it 15 years ago. I almost wrote the old girl off and send her to the scrap yard because the engine finally gave out. Being unable to part with her, I have decided to locate a low mileage used engine and breathe some new life into her. Which brings me to the reason for needing to know the engine's dimensions. I was going to use my girlfriends Jeep Liberty to drive over to the East coast and get it. But didn't want to make that journey without knowing if it would fit in her Jeep? Which brings me to a follow up question. I'm not 100% sure what the difference between a short block and long block, but if the salvage yard brings me the long block version will it have the same dimensions as listed above? Just don't want to drive all that way to find out it won't fit.

"Short block" generally means just the block, perhaps the oil pan and front cover with timing gear intact. "Long block" would mean with heads included, intake may or may not be included.

To your issue about the search function here or any other similarly equipped website----search terms tend to make all the difference. If your results don't suit you try, try again or simply ask a question.
