transplant timing woes

Paul, that hose going from the Carb to the Vac cylinder on your distributor is the engines method of advancing the spark timing to compensate for the increased engine speed.

That hose MUST be connected to the Vacuam port in the Carb, not the Vacuam port in the Base of the Carb.
This Vacuam were are talking about is not something you can take off and throw away.
This line cannot be plugged and forgotten.
You can see the Vacuam cylinder functioning with a timing light, as you increase engine speed.
You can also see it function by connecting a hand operated vacuam pump to the line from the carb, and slowly pump the Vacuam up and watch the flash of the timing mark move in the Advanced direction.
The emissions stuff that people foolishly throw away is entirely seperate from this timing problem.
You might try reading about this stuff in the library. There are books on Emission control's and also on the Ford engines themselves that have some eyeopener explanations about the stuff that's on the stock engines.
Seattle has a great public library system Just ask all the homless that live there!

transplant timing woes

Ahhh you mean the vac advance diaphram, ok I get the picture. Well swapped distributers w/ my 460 out of a Lincolin & problem instantly solved. However it didn't go all that smooth, upon removing the dist. from the truck the shaft came out of the oil pump ( thought the new dist. went in too easy). TICK,TICK,TICK OH...... GDMFPOS .Was able to pull it out with those little finger/gripper things & re set it in the pump & got it going. Was having bad visions of lots of work . Thanks to all for the help !!! & hey Thudpucker the have a franchise of JY's here that have sprung up in the last couple of years called "Pull-A- Part" they operate kinda different it costs $1.00 to enter the yard even to browse. But the prices kick butt. $149.00 any engine , trannys about $75.00 , tc's $50.00 - $100.00. I'll show 'em too ya if ya make it up this way. What were you doing @ the library ?

...that library beats sleeping under a bnridge!
Thanks for the link. I'll make contact if I ever get down there. Since 9-11 the whole world has gone into 'gouge' mode, and the air travel industry is leading the charge.
