I would say any year. The early bronco's are so easy to customize to your needs what difference does the year make. Just find the nicest rust free bronco you can and ad the options you need.
But I'll agree the 76-77 are the best year to buy, if you can find one. Anything is better than another f'n jeep.

71 cause that's what I have. I think they are very cool and different.
I was talking to a guy that owns an off road shop here in SA and he made a comment something like
"Everyone has a Jeep and they all look the same no matter what you do"
This from a guy who makes a lot of money off Jeepers. I love it.

I like the 72', you could get one with D44, and it still had the old steel body. Between 73 and 74 they went to a different body steel, they start to be a little more rusted out past then. Plus, I believe 72' was the year of the most production. I have had a 76', 75'(2), and a 72', and the 72' has been my favorite. I have a 75' now, but there is a definate difference in the body steel. Just as long as you stay between 66' and 77' you will have a great vehical.

Jeep Rubicon yeah right. Why people will pay $10000 more for $600 worth of lockers "I don't understand".. The dana 44's sound great but how many yuppies take the darn jeep off road. Most just drive down the road and wave at each other and "think" that they are cool.
I hate to admit that I've owned numerous jeeps, CJ5, CJ7, Commado's and currently my wife drives a 93 wrangler. Its lifted with 31's, custom brush guards etc..
Nothing stops traffic or turns heads like a nice old bronco. I don't have people come up and say cool truck, sharp truck, whats that, want to sell it, etc when I drive the jeep. Its just ANOTHER jeep, big deal.
If you want something COOL get yourself a bronco. I don't think I can handle one more "jeep thing" sticker.
